How We Keep Adventure Activities Safe at Educamps Adventures

Adventure comes with excitement — but at Educamps Adventures, it never comes at the expense of safety.

Every activity, from climbing and kayaking to bushcraft and mountain biking, is delivered with carefully managed procedures that keep children safe while still giving them the freedom to explore, push limits, and build confidence.

Here’s how we ensure the safest possible adventure environment.

1. Comprehensive Risk Assessments for Every Activity

a risk that may happen during canoeing. all in a safe environment with trained instructors supervising.

Before any activity begins, our instructors complete:

  • Written risk assessments

  • On-site dynamic risk checks

  • Equipment condition inspections

  • Weather suitability checks

Nothing begins unless it meets our standards — and our instructor signs off that it is safe.

2. Safety Equipment That Meets National Standards

Every child uses high-quality, regularly inspected safety equipment, including:

  • Helmets

  • Harnesses

  • Buoyancy aids

  • Ropes and carabiners

  • Protective pads

  • Activity-specific clothing where required

All equipment is labelled, maintained, logged, and replaced according to industry standards.

3. Structured Safety Briefings Before Every Activity

Before every session, children receive a clear, age-appropriate briefing covering:

  • How the equipment works

  • Activity rules

  • What to do if they feel unsure

  • Emergency procedures

  • Safe behaviour in groups

Children are encouraged to ask questions — there is no rush to begin until everyone feels ready.

4. Clear Group Sizes & Supervision Ratios

A group of international kids, being supervised on a 1:6 ratio by a camp counsellor

To ensure maximum safety, activities run with strict group sizes depending on the discipline:

  • Water activities: small groups with 1:6

  • Climbing & high ropes: controlled groups with 1:6

(with a maximum of only 2 people climbing at once)

  • Bushcraft & land activities: up to 1:10 depending on the task

This ensures every child receives focused supervision.

5. Weather Monitoring & Flexible Activity Swaps

Safety always comes before schedules.

If weather conditions make an activity unsafe, we switch to:

  • Indoor climbing

  • Bushcraft shelters

  • Team challenges

  • Adventure games

  • Indoor workshops

Children still enjoy a full, engaging session — just delivered safely.

6. Emergency Response Plans & First Aid Readiness

All activities include:

  • Designated emergency meeting points

  • Radio communication between leaders

  • First aid trained instructors

  • Quick access to emergency vehicles if needed

Our team is prepared long before they ever need to be.
