Creating Safe, Supportive Spaces for Ukrainian Teens Through Summer Camps
This summer, we were proud to partner with Brightseeds to welcome a group of Ukrainian teenagers, aged 11–17, to our New Forest Adventure Camp.
In just 48 hours, our team was able to make this happen by donating a number of summer camp places to ensure they were welcomed into a safe, inclusive environment during an already difficult time.
2 weeks of growth, adventure & friendship
During their stay, the students fully embraced the camp experience — taking part in activities such as kayaking, climbing, raft building, archery, and campfire cooking.
They approached every challenge with enthusiasm, and it was a joy to see how quickly they connected with both UK and Spanish students also attending camp. They naturally bonded through shared experiences — working together, having fun, and learning side by side.
By the end of their stay, we saw just how much they’d gained — not just from the activities, but from being part of a group, building confidence and creating memories that will last long beyond summer.
About Brightseeds
Brightseeds (formerly BHSU) was founded in response to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. As the conflict continues, displacement, trauma, and disrupted schooling remain daily realities for many Ukrainian children.
Their mission is to empower Ukrainian children through global education. As part of their Summer Schools initiative, Brightseeds provides “free places for Ukrainian children on residential educational programmes in the UK, designed to give Ukrainian students an international education, bolster self-confidence, and offer a glimpse of a brighter future.” (Brightseeds LinkedIn).
